Labriz Hotel

At this 112-room property on Silhouette Island, a 15-minute helicopter ride from Mahé, the focus is less on interior design than on ecology, even though the standard garden villas are pleasing to the eye, with high ceilings, natural-fiber furnishings, and a palm-fringed outdoor shower. An on-site eco-center organizes treks into the dense forest, and while beach access is less manicured (you'll climb over fallen palms and twisted vines), this gives it a far more natural appeal. Even the Aquum Spa integrates boulders into six treatment pavilions hidden amid coconut palms. For snorkeling, a five-minute boat ride brings plenty of colorful schools into view. Grann Kaz, the 200-year-old planter's house turned creole restaurant set to open in May, has a wraparound terrace and an upstairs filled with plantation memorabilia.
